“Julia. Julia. Wake up.”
Julia opened her eyes.
Ron sat on the edge of the bed.
Dressed for work.
“Julia, you’ll be late.”
Julia turned away from him.
“I’m not going anywhere today.”
“Julia, darling, sitting around this house all day will be of little help to you.”
“Leave me alone.”
“Well, I suppose you could use the time to—”
“Please. Don’t say another word. Just get the fuck out of here.”
After moments of silence, Ron stood up.
“Alright, Julia, perhaps you know best. I’ll see you at the end of the day.”
Julia closed her eyes.
She hated Ron’s matter-of-fact tone.
And his condescending bedside manner.
Ron’s footfalls faded down the stairs.
And Julia slipped away.
Once again.
