Julia had never seen the Grand Canyon.julia's view
She opened her eyes and looked down.
Just a big hole in the ground.
Another thing not what it’s cracked up to be.

“Darling, are you awake?”

Julia looked over at Ron.
He looked back at her with an expression that could be mistaken for true affection.

On the drop-down tray in front of him, the in-flight magazine lay open.
Next to it stood two short plastic cups.
One with ice and a lime.
The other with the scant remains of a Bloody Mary.

“Would you care for another, sir?”

Ron glanced up at the smiling stewardess.

Her mouth set in that certain way.
Eyes hidden behind Italian sunglasses.
To the world, inscrutable.
Ron knew better.

“No thanks,” he said to the stewardess. “I’m fine. For now.”
